Smart Objects is the new project from Benjamin A. Harper (Magnolia Sons, The Comfies); featuring former and current members of Nashville bands The Future; Gardening, Not Architecture; and LUTHI.

Smart Objects’ brand of angular, thinking man’s rock is intelligent but accessible, expanding the horizons of pop sensibility as handed down by classic forebears like David Bowie, The Zombies, and Harry Nilsson. These primordial influences are filtered through a modern inventiveness to create sonically interesting compositions that would fall easily into the catalogues of peers like Beck or Spoon.

It wouldn’t sound out of place in the late ‘60s, but it’s ultimately timeless, in the same way that 10cc and Harry Nilsson records sit comfortably next to Brendan Benson and Ben Folds.

Smart Objects make soaring debut with “The Autumn Man,”a sun-soaked, ’60s-inspired, experimental, and layered flavor of indie pop...forging a sound that mixes retro rock grandiosity with a thoroughly modern, pop accessible, quirky, and smart indie rock sound.

An inventive and inspired new effort, a perfect pop/rock jam for your end of summer playlists

To those who’ve followed Ben’s musical career from the Comfies to Feable Weiner to Harper to Magnolia Sons, it’s not surprising how damn musical this record is. But when you consider it was made at home, it’s eye-opening.
